Then and Now Colonialism, Imperialism and Post Colonialism

What is Colonialism ?

According to Oxford dictionary-
Colonial word comes from the Roman ‘colonia’ which meant ‘farm’ or ‘settlement’, and referred to Romans who settled in other lands but still retained their citizenship.

Pitterbarry mentioned this words-

What is ADOPT, ADAPT and ADEPT

ADOPT:   Write upon Western Writers.
ADAPT:  To get Mastery upon anything.
ADEPT:  Write upon Indian.

Ania Loomba-

Ania Loomba is an Indian literary scholar. She is the author of Colonialism/Postcolonialism and works as a literature professor at the University of Pennsylvania.
Loomba researches and teaches English literature and early modern culture, postcolonialism, the history of colonialism and postcolonialism in South Asia, as well as postcolonial literature and culture.

Ania Loomba mentioned the OED describes it as:

“a settlement in a new country … a body of people who settle in a new locality, forming a community subject to or connected with their parent state; the community so formed, consisting of the original settlers and their descendants and successors, as long as the connection with the parent state is kept up.”

Asin, African and American countries were colonied by European nations. Colonialism is conquest and control politics. Colonial effects in everywhere culture, history, economic market fundamentalism destroy more human lives than any other simply because everyone growth not development but they were the processes of imposition, disintegration, under development and appropriation. For example Narmada dam issue how narrative change and show reality as different way.

Colonial effects on every where literature, politics, economic. For example Wordsworth also use politics.

What is Imperialism?

According to Lenin and Kautsky say Imperialism is higher than colonialism. Colonialism can be defined as the conquest and control other people's land and goods.

The OED defines ‘imperial’ as ‘pertaining to empire’, and ‘imperialism’ as the ‘rule of an emperor, especially when despotic or arbitrary; the principal or spirit of empire; advocacy of what are held to be imperial interests’. As a matter of fact, the connection of imperial with royal authority is highly variable. For example British imperialism in India. Now we are free from Imperialism but can be really we(India) are free from Imperialism.

According to my view highper nationalism , religious that all thing is something match with imperialism like any narrow minded religious people say other people to speak “Jay Shree Ram” as forceful so may be it like imperialism.

What is Post-Colonialism ?

According to Oxford dictionary-
“The study of the cultures of countries and regions, especially in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, whose histories are marked by colonialism, anti-colonial movements, and the transition to independence during the 20th century, and the study of their present-day influence on the societies and cultures of former colonizers.”.

As simple way we can say that Post- colonialism is a study on the effects of colonialism and societies concerned with both how European nations conquered and controlled Third world country.

Post- colonialism is study of culture, identity, society, politics, economic and self reflection.

Ania Loomba mentioned this definition-
To begin with, the prefix ‘post’ complicates matters because it implies an ‘aftermath’ in two senses—temporal, as in coming after, and ideological, as in supplanting.

Globalisation and future of post Colonial study-

As we see colonialism effect as we see globalisation for they were exploited works. Nicano Apaza say - 'Globalization is just another name for submission and domination.
According to my understanding colonialism – Before 1947 we (India) were colonied by British their civilization effected on Indian. Now colonialism effect most everytwhere for example we used mobile phone, television, email, Google, clothes , game like cricket etc. So now as Indian we are colonied not free from as thinking also.

The term is not only inadequate to the task of defining contemporary realities in the once-colonised countries, and vague in terms of indicating a specific period of history, but may also cloud the internal social and racial differences of many societies. Spanish colonies in Latin America, for example, became ‘mixed’ societies, in which local born whites (or ‘creoles’) and mestizos, or ‘hybrids’, dominated the native working population. Hybridity or mestizaje here included a complex internal hierarchy within various mixed peoples.

For example Midnight’s Children movie protagonist character Saleem has hybrid ideatity.
