Dryden essay on thinking activity

Dryden essay on thinking activity :

1) Do you any difference between Aristotle's definition of tragedy and Dryden's definition of play ?

Yes I  find wide difference between Aristotle's definition of tragedy and Dryden's definition of play. Here I write both definition :
 Aristotle definition :

"Tragedy, then, is an imitation of an action that is serious, complete, and of a certain magnitude; in language embellished with each kind of artistic ornament, the several kinds being found in separate parts of the play; in the form of action, not of narrative; through pity and fear effecting the proper purgation of these emotions".

Aristotle's definition is most of suitable for tragedy play. Aristotle use this word pity and fear in his definition , this word is most of related tragic drama , it is not related with any other type of drama.

Here I write Dryden's definition of play :

"A play ought to be a just and lively image of human nature, representing its passions and humours and the changes of fortune to which it is subject, for the delight and instruction of mankind".

While Dryden use this word delight and lively image this word is suitable for any type of play ,so it is full of change Dryden's definition.

2) If you are supposed to give your personal predilection would you be on the side of the ancient or the modern ?

I would like to be on the modern side. It is reasonable modern is over than ancient. Modern has profited by the rules of the ancient they have excelled them. The moderns have not blindly imitated the ancients rules. One point also moderns find out something new things than ancient. Modern adding something l think is most important for any create otherwise art is not like interesting.

3) Do you think that the arguments presented in favour of the French plays and against English plays are appropriate ?

Yes, I think French plays are appropriate than English plays because French plays are observe the rules of the ancient. They observe of the unity of place, they are equally follow unity in their plays. French plays are always based upon some well known story. The French narrations are better managed and more skillful than those of the English. Another thing is serious fault in the English plays are the representation of death on the stage so it is impossible to perfectly present death on the stage. While French plays are not include death scene in their plays.

4) what would be your preference so far as poetic dialogues or prosaic are concerned in the play ?

I would be preference as poetic dialogues are concerned in the play. Because poetic dialogues though easily convey message on Spector mind. Poetic dialogues as like rhyme. Poetic dialogues are help for judgement . Rhyme effect on spector emotions and feelings. But sometimes over poetic dialogues are like unnatural because anyone can't speak instantly in poetic dialogues. But If playwrights are use appropriate poetic dialogues in appropriate place so play like beautiful.
