Coleridge: Biographia Literaria

Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Biographia Literaria: Chapter 14

1) Difference between poem and prose.

Here My view on both form.
Prose does not pay attention to rhyme and rhythm while poem pays attention to rhyme and rhythm. Prose writer usually has no word limit but poem writer use a limited number of words.

Prose form like paragraph while poem form most of in lines so it is like stanzas. Prose language is more natural and grammatical while poem language is figurative and rhythmical.

Prose writting form we can easily understand by reading once because we can observe what is message of writer while poem we can read one more time may be understand the meaning of poem because most of poem behind lot of interpretation and poets various feeling expressed by their poems so we can't easily understand poem behind meaning .

Its other reason is everyone has different thoughts and different interpretation for understanding any poem so we have confused what is really purpose of poet .

2) Difference between poem and poetry.

I think poem is primary imagination of the poets while poetry is secondary imagination of the poets. Poem is form of structure and poetry is philosophy of the poets's mind.

Poets most of use material language to create poem while poetry through poets are present true feeling in their poetry. Poem give pleasure and poetry gives an aesthetic delight. Here I keep image poetry and poem .

This image through we can understand which type difference between poem and poetry. I understand  Daffodils poetry it is poet's true feeling and other examples Try Try again this poem is like use material language.
