Paralysis novel review

 

Hello Readers,

After long time here I share book review of Paralysis novel by Chandrakant Bakshi. These is not possible sublime author comparison to other even I want to say Bakshi is immomentous diamond in Gujarati literature. And it is definitely wright to say he began nonimplemental era in Gujarati literature. Recently I read Paralysis novel. 

When you read title of this novel  may think this novel is about paralysis malady and you are very well know about paralysis malady how people body become worthless during this crisis. Actually this novel is start like this –  

માણસે આંખો ખોલી અને રોશનદાનો તરફ જોયું. કાચોમાં હજી રાત નું અઘરું હતું. પાછલી રાતે આવતા પહાડી કાગડાઓના અવાજો હજી આવતા ન હતા. સવાર દૂર હતી . નવા સ્વપ્ન માટે એણે આંખો બંધ કરી.

The beginning of novel few page about description of place. In this novel Bakshi use flash back technique, so frequently character mind change even every thought change and I think this novel deal with both theme optimism and pessimism. But more I find optimistic view at the end of the novel. 

Before I start my point of view I want to ask you one question –

Do you know what is malady for human ? Physical or mental ? 

Think about that and I am sure you will get good answer of the question. 

About novel- 

This is story of professor Aram Shah actually he is paralysis patient. One by one he unfold his life story, he started with his marriage life then his daughter born Whose name he kept Marisha during this description he is very happy to say everything about his daughter and wife but in between his wife died at middle age at that time his daughter Marisha is very young. So for him it is like first tragic events even he didn’t lose his hope and survival his daughter well curbed. However here is not end of tragic crisis of Aram Shah but it was starting for him. After long time Marisha one wrong decision make him again helpless person, actually Marisha decided to marry with her college professor George , he is nine year old than Marisha but Marisha has strong insisted marry with George. 

Thought-out this novel Aram most of talk about his daughter it is proof his amadous love for his daughter that’s why he won’t denied to his daughter and agree to accept his daughter marriage with George but his doubt become reality he knew his son-in- low second marriage with his daughter and George has also relation with his first wife. Marisha know his husband reality even she tried to live with her husband. After one day one call destroyed all thing for Aram, Aram listen his daughter committed suicide. This news become the reason of Aram Shah's paralysis attack. Then Aram feel his life like meaningless because he alone person nobody with him but when he admitted at hospital there were one Matron her name is Aashika so Aram feel comfortable with her and get new hope for living life. After Hospital become best place for Aram because there he has one person (Aashika) for talk. Forty-five-year-old professor and a decade younger matron, the age where most Indian men and women have stable.He is soon discharged, but cannot bid Aashika farewell, since she has disappeared into the foothills. Instead of taking a plane home, he returns to the site where he had the stroke, and wanders through it under the beating sun. But nobody can assume that Aram has which kind of relation longed with Aashika – Mother or daughter or lover.

 

Unanswered questions become meaningless and they’re separate at the end of the novel and may be it is unique way of end this novel also maintain novel title , if author done happy ending of the novel than we can say it is love story but author doesn’t do that perhaps Bakshi want to suggest reality of life you are alone always alone even own self you have to find your life vision there where unvarnished to depend on other for your happiness.

એક વાત એ કે પહાડ જેવું દુઃખ આવી પડે તે સહન કરવાની ઘણીવાર મનુષ્યોમાં ઈશ્વરીય શક્તિ આવી જાય છે. અમુક અપવાદો બાદ કરીને એવાં બધું જ લૂંટાવી ચુકેલા, ગુમાવી ચુકેલા પુરુષોની આંખોમાં ફરી સર્વ પોતાનું કરી લેવાનો જુસ્સો અછતો નથી રહેતો. આવી પડેલું દુઃખ હૃદયનાં કોઈક ખૂણે દાબી દઈ, ફરી નોર્મલ થવાની કોશિષ મનુષ્યો કરે જ છે. પણ ઘણીવાર એ દુઃખનો ઉભરો પણ બહાર આવ્યા વિના રહેતો નથી. આવો જ પોતાની પીડા, તકલીફ અને અસફળતાનાં અપરાધભાવથી દૂર ભાગતો પુરુષ એટલે અરામ શાહ અને એનાં દુઃખનો ઉભરો એટલે એને થયેલો રોગ એટલે પેરેલિસિસ....

પેરાલીસીસ શરીરને થાય છે, મનને નહીં. નાયકનું મન પેરાલિસિસની સારવાર દરમ્યાન વર્તમાન અને ભૂતકાળ વચ્ચે ઝોલા ખાય છે. પથારીમાં સૂતા સૂતા એને આત્મનિરીક્ષણ કરવાનો મોકો મળે છે. આરામ  પોતાના દુખો વાગોળે છે હોસ્પિટલ માં કદાચ એવા હેતુથી કે એના દુઃખ પચી જાય અને ખરેખર એ પોતાના દુઃખો પચાવી જાય છે ને ફરી નવી શરૂરત કરવાનું પણ વિચારે છે અને હોસ્પિટલ માંથી મુક્તિ પણ મેળવે છે અને ફરીફરી ને આરામ એ જગ્યાએ પોહચે છે જ્યાં એને પેરાલિસી એટેક આવેલો ……….

અને અંતે અહીંયા નવલકથા પૂરી થાય છે
