A Grain of wheat

Grain of Wheat is a novel by Kenyan novelist James Ngugi (Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o) first published as part of the influential Heinemann African Writers Series. The novel weaves together several stories set during the state of emergency in Kenya's struggle for independence (1952–59), focusing on the quiet Mugo, whose life is ruled by a dark secret.

As we know Daniel Defoe was a British writer so he belong to colonizer that why his description is different from colonied writing. When we read Robinson Crusoe novel at that time we can see master and slave relation, Robinson as white person who is master of Friday. Friday as black slave his native place and Friday's moral values or his identity down than Robinson's identity. And show that Friday's native people like uncivilized that why Robinson try to make them civilized.

While A Grain of Wheat novel is written by African writer Ngugi Wa Thiongo. African also suffered from imperialism, they also suffer Britisher power. But this novel quite different described, because this novel is point of view of the colonied. Novel beginning to one state Kenya there people excited for Uhuru day celebration then it story going on flash back how they suffered from British imperialism. Also Mau Mau rebellion party fight for native land. It is not about the struggle for freedom or about the 'lonely African'. This novel written by African writer that why here we can see native described is completely different from British writers. When we read Robinson Cruseo novel their master protrait other native land and they show himself powerful than other. While we read A Grain of wheat novel in this novel we can notice that here is native land people fight for their freedom but this is not seen in the Robinson Cruseo novel because this is novel by British writer.
