What is Metaphysical poem?

The term "Metaphysical" when applied to poetry has long and interesting history. Metaphysical poetry is highly intellectual ,highly imagery, complexity and subtlety of thought, sometime use paradox and often by deliberate harshness or rigidity of expression.
  Here some notable poets who was master to write Metaphysical poems.
1) John Donne
2) George Herbert
3) Richard Crashaw
4) Andrew Marvell
5) Henry Vaughan
 
Metaphysical poetry 's characteristics :

1) They wanted to distinguish themselves from the Elizabethan age and so they used difficult language in their poems.
2)Far fetched images are most important feature of Metaphysical poetry. They need their image from different field like biology, science,agriculture and engineering. For example The Flea in this poem ,poet chosen mosquito biological from through expressed love.Here the poem Flea one stanza its example of biologically image use

Mark but this flea, and mark in this,   
How little that which thou deniest me is;   
It sucked me first, and now sucks thee,
And in this flea our two bloods mingled be;   
Thou know’st that this cannot be said
A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead,
   
   
2) Complex sentence patterns : words are easy to understand , but ideas are more difficult to grasp. Its example is Pulley poem written by George Herbert and other is And "To His Coy Mistress" poem written by Andrew Marvell. Here pulley poem is best example

3) Philosophical themes :- down to earth Philosophical approach.
