 The Modern Age (1910-2000)
In the 1901 end of the Victorage and the beginning of the modern age, for it is the year of Queen Victorian's death. The modern age is the most complex, complicated and revolutionary age in the history of the world. Many of the poets, dramatists, novelists and prose writers were famous in nowadays also. At that time two world war happened. This world war effects on English literature.

1) T.E.Hulme (1883-1917)
His poem interpretation -
The Embankment
Once, in finesse of fiddles found I ecstasy,
In a flash of gold heels on the hard pavement.
Now see I
That warmth’s the very stuff of poesy.
Oh, God, make small
The old star-eaten blanket of the sky,
That I may fold it round me and in comfort lie.

The Embankment is titled of poem. Actually Emabankment is place name of London City. These places may be known for homeless people sleeping rough. The poem centre theme is like fallen gentleman remember his past and how he found pleasure in worldy social activities and beautiful women probalby prostituted. But now his down luck and most probably sleeping rough on the streets.
Use of modern metaphor-  flash of gold heels
Use of visual image - old star eaten blanket of the sky.

2) Joseph Compbell :-
Darkness.
I stop to watch a star shine in the boghole –
A star no longer, but a silver ribbon of light.
I look at it, and pass on.

The poem theme may be like negatively. Poet may tell he won't be shown fake hope so he wants to just see and pass on. Other means may be poet say nothing is permanent in life and univer also.
Poet also use metaphor- star-  silver ribbon of light
Use symbol - Star shine is symbol of human life.
Darkness is symbol of negativity.

3) Edward Storer :-
                       Image
Forsaken lovers,
Burning to a chaste white moon,
Upon strange pyres of loneliness and drought.

Here poet described forsaken lover condition what lovers get after their breakup, they get loneliness and drought. May these kind of image create by poet in the poem.
Use of modern metaphor- pyres of loneliness
'Burning to chaste white moon' this line create surreal image.
4) Ezra Pound -

In a station of the Metro

    The apparition of these faces in the crowd;
Petals on a wet black bought.

The poem describes the sight of the crowd of commuters at the Paris Metro station, using a vivid and original image. The poem titles is " In a station of the Metro " it is also suggest that modern age notable growth for industrialization like Metro train started in at that time.

5) H.D (Hilda Doolittle):-

         The Pool

   Are you alive ?
   I touch you.
   You quiver like a sea-fish.
I cover you with my net.
What are you- banded one ?

The poem about coming face to face with her reflection in the waters of a rock-pool. These poem titles is also symbolist , The Pool it mean
bound of with something. At that time people bound of with busy life and people haven't time for anyone.

6) Richard Aldington  :-

        Insouciance
In and out of the dreary treaches,
Trudging cheerily under the stars,
I make for myself little poems
Delicate as a flock of doves.
They fly away like white- winged doves.

These poem theme is like human being indifferent condition present by poet. The speaker may be said life is like dreary (boring) treaches. Everywhere is meaningless for person in their life. Speaker may said that human being may be free for everything.
7) T.S.Eliot :-

     Morning at window

They are rattling breakfast plates in basement kitchen,
And along the trampled edges of the street
I am aware of the damp souls of housemaids
Sprouting despondently at area gates.

The brown waves of fog toss up to me
Twisted faces from the bottom of the street,
And tear from a passee- by with muddy skirts
An aimless smaile that hovers in the air
And vanishes along the level of the roofs.

The theme of the poem "Morning at window" is poverty. The speaker described which type people suffered from poverty. And also present condition of poor people in city slum. May be poet watched condition of poor people in street. The speaker use word like ' housemaids' ,'Twisted faces' ,' muddy skirts' ,'aimless smalie'. Through this word poet may be present poor people condition for living city area. The speaker is kind of objective because here speaker didn't said his personal emotions. But he present universal image of poverty. So the poet may be influenced by objectivism movement.

8) William Carlos :-

      The Redwheelbarraw

So much depends
Upon
a red wheel
barrow
glazed with rain
water
besides the white
chicken

According to me this such high contexts , it word is like simple but something may be deep meaning of the poem. As friendly l tell you I haven't more ideas of this poem. But some word like Red it may be sign of danger. When white colour symbol of peace.

9) Wallace Stevens :-

  Anecdote of the Jar

I placed a jar in Tennessee,
And round it was, upon a hill.
It made the slovenly wilderness
Surround that hill.

The wilderness rose up to it,
And sprawled around, no longer wild.
The jar was round upon the ground
And tall and of a port in air.

It took dominion everywhere.
The jar was gray and bare.
It did not give of bird or bush,
Like nothing else in Tennessee.

When I read this poem at first time during I think here poet put Tennessee word in capital letter. So I thought it may be unknown place name, its like Keat's Ode to Grecian urn kind of poem. The jar could be a medium through which we as humans try to understand the natural world we are part of. The more we know, the more the corrupted. Gone are bird and bush. The altered states (of mind) evolves.

10) E.E.Cummings :-

As someone see this poem make share they feel it is joke or poem. Other someone tried to fun create to making this kind of poem. But really is not funny poem. Here poet said something to using different kind of poem form. Loneliness of fallen leaf. And poet also arrange alphabet without word and sentence arrange all alphabet. So may be poet talked about civilization of his country. Poet use surreal image in the poem.
