Here I share short-story review.
Between The Mosque and The Temple is short story written by Boman Desai. Boman Desai is a famous writer born in Bombay, India in 1950. He was educated from the United States and now living in the United States.
The story involves around a minor incident which could have resulted into a blood – shed
between the two communities of Hindus and Muslims. This situation also happens in contemporary time. Both community believe that "Sabka Malik Ek", "Ishvar Ek hai" but in the real sense they don't follow that thought and if they believe then couldn't be happen quarrel in Ayodhya.
In this short story woman is protagonist character who solve can situation, Banu was the chairman of Sanitation committee. She had to settle a dispute between the Hindus and the Muslims about the placement of a dustbin. The Hindus said that it was too close to the temple and the Muslims said that it was too close to their Mosque. The collector had warned Banu that a bloodshed might result if she were not careful. But Banu said that she was the chairman and she would fix a day to examine the disputed place.
Banu reached the site of dispute. She said that the solution was simple but they all had
to be reasonable. They had got to find the place exactly between the mosque and the temple.
She wanted both a Hindu and a Muslim to walk with her and count her footsteps. They counted exactly two hundred and thirty two. An answer came One Hundred and Sixteen. She asked hem to count her footsteps back to the mosque. She stopped at a hundred and sixteen. That was the midpoint. It meant moving the bin closer to the temple and farther from the mosque. Banu felt relieved because she felt the Hindus would give in more easily than the Muslims. The Hindus and The Muslims thanked her and said that it was a wise decision. She belongs to Parsi community.
At the end she says,
"I’ve solved the problem because I am a Parsi not a Hindu or a Muslim and more than that I am a Woman."
Her line interpretation that people are blindly follow their religious and some time they forget logic behind quarrel.
